Three-ocean going hunters were reported to have been brought home safe and sound last Sunday.
Alaska State Troopers report a search and rescue over the weekend when three Togiak hunters were reported overdue on Sunday morning. Troopers say 31-year old Roy Peterson, 29-year old Ryan Andrew and a 13-year old boy had left Togiak Saturday morning in a 16-foot Lund and were traveling down the coast.
One of the Togiak Village Public Safety Officers happened to be hunting in the area when he saw the three pass by near Matogak Bay. The V-P-S-O says the waves were picking up at the time and he became concerned.
On Sunday afternoon, the hunters were spotted by aircraft walking along the beach of Estus Point. They had landed their boat when the waves picked up but forgot to anchor it, and it drifted away. One of the hunters reportedly attempted to swim out to the boat but did not reach it and swam back to shore.
Troopers say they chartered a local fish processor’s helicopter to return the three men home to Togiak. They are in good condition.
