Two Goodnews Bay men are dead and one woman is still missing after a boating accident Friday evening near Platinum. Alaska State Troopers say a Mayday call for help reached Goodnews Bay Public Safety Officers around 5:45 Friday afternoon about a small boat that had capsized in high waves about 2.5 miles south of Goodnews Bay.

Troopers say the bodies of two Goodnews Bay residents 57-year-old Richard Ross and 49-year-old Sam Pavala were pulled from the frigid waters of Goodnews Bay Friday night. They were brought to the Platinum Health Clinic, where resuscitation efforts were conducted but were unsuccessful. Search efforts are on-going for the third person that was reported to be in the boat with the two men and she has been identified as 28 year old Angela Chingliak of Goodnews Bay

The three Goodnews Bay residents were traveling between Platinum and Goodnews Bay in a flat-bottom riverboat with a 350 inboard motor. The boat swamped in heavy waves in 20 knot southerly winds. The small flat-bottom boat was reported to have been overloaded with supplies from the Platinum Plant. All three people were wearing life preservers at the time of the accident. Recovery efforts to find Angela Chingliak are still continuing.
