Village Showdown: Big pledge pushes Aniak into front with tundra villages

by Shane Iverson on October 11, 2013

Kasigluk, Atmautluak and Nunapitchuk are the three tundra villages of the Johnson river. They also have near total domination of the leaderboard as villages race to pledge the most in hopes of receiving winning KYUK’s Village Showdown and a hometown play-by-play coverage of the high school basketball game of their choice. The middle Kuskokwim River village of Aniak leapfrogged into a top spot as well after a generous pledge on Thursday morning.

Village Showdown Leaderboard:

1. KASIGLUK $200
2. ANIAK $150
3. ATMAUTLUAK $125
3. NUNAPITCHUK $125
5. AKIACHAK $120
5. TOKSOOK BAY $120
7. KWETHLUK $75
8. AKIAK $70
9. MT. VILLAGE $60
10. KWIGILLINGOK $50
11. TULUKSAK $40
11. TUNTUTULIAK $40
13. QUINHAGAK $25

The rules of the KYUK Village Showdown are pretty simple. The village that pledges the most support by the end of the day on Tuesday, October the 15th, wins. That village’s high school basketball team can decide when and where they want KYUK to provide the coverage. It could be a home tournament or even an away tournament so fans back home can catch the action. The game must be in the Y/K Delta. In the event of a tie the number of individuals that pledged from each village will break the tie, with the highest winning.

Anyone who pledges is also entered into KYUK’s grand prize and weekly drawings. Plus they’ll receive KYUK’s incentive gifts depending on the level they contribute.
