WAANT, or the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team made two different arrests earlier this week.

According to WAANT reports, they were tipped off to a suspicious box at one of the local air carriers on Tuesday afternoon the 28th of August. The box was addressed to an adult male in Platinum. WAANT officers searched the suspicious box and found 2.77 ounces or 80-grams of marijuana, with a street value of $4-thousand dollars. Suspects have been identified and their investigation continues.

Earlier on the same day, Tuesday the 28th, WAANT officers were called to another air carrier where there was a suspicious man waiting to travel to Chefornak. WAANT officers searched his backpack and found two bottles of alcohol and a malted beverage. The village of Chefornak is one of many villages, in the Y/K delta, that voted to ban the sale and importation of alcohol. A case report will be brought to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
