WAANT seizes 10.5 oz of pot & 20 gallons of homebrew

Over ten ounces of pot was seized by law enforcement as well as some alcohol in Chefornak
The Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team or WAANT says they received a tip about a possible shipment of drugs coming to one of the villages in the region. On Thursday the 10th, they went to one of the local air carriers in Bethel, and contacted 25-year-old Victoria Jimmy of Chefornak as she waited for a flight for alleged importation.

WAANT says Jimmy almost smuggled ten point five ounces of marijuana and eight bottles of alcohol with her to Chefornak. The pot had a street value of $14-thousand nine-hundred ($14,900) dollars, the booze had a street value of $1-thousand two hundred ($1,200) dollars.

WAANT officers arrested Jimmy for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance and an alcohol importation charge. Chefornak is a local option community who bans the importation and sale of alcohol.

On Friday, Troopers were called to Chevak with a search warrant regarding another case of illegal alcohol. Troopers say they searched the home of Robert G. Paniyak and found approximately twenty (20) gallons of homebrew, along with a small amount of marijuana, an electronic scale, and packaging material.

Troopers arrested Paniyak brought him to the State Jail here in Bethel on charges that he was in violation of the conditions of his probation. Chevak is a local option community where the importation, sale and manufacturing of alcohol are illegal.
