The Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team, or WAANT, found over eight (8) pounds of marijuana last week
Anchorage WAANT investigators along with the United States Postal Service Inspectors say they conducted a postal sort last week. Officers located a package at the Ted Stevens International Airport Post Office that had several indicators of containing contraband.
A scent detecting WAANT K-9, named Duncan, was brought in to establish probable cause in order to obtain a Federal search warrant. With the search warrant in hand the parcel was opened and found to contain approximately three-thousand-six-hundred-ninety-six (3, 696) grams, or a little over eight pounds of marijuana.
WAANT officers estimate that if the drugs were sold in Anchorage on the streets, their value would have brought in about $37-thousand dollars. WAANT officers also estimate the rural street value, such as in Western Alaska, to be approximately $185-thousand dollars.
An interview with the person the parcel was addressed to confessed, however charges have not been made and their investigation is on going.
