The wrestling team from Bethel Regional High School claimed the Alaska small school state title Saturday evening in Nikiski. The Warriors totaled 188 points in their team victory, 36.5 more than runner-up and conference rival Dillingham, who garnered 151.5 points.

Winning individual state championships were Marjus Kuqo at 145 lbs, and Trevour Chavez at 160 lbs. Both warrior champs won 4-0 decisions in their respective final.

The team was also bolstered by Brayton Chavez who placed 2nd at 152 lbs. and Timothy Robb who finished 2nd at 285 lbs.

In the end the warriors had 16 wrestlers score points, far more than another team at the state competition

The Bethel Warriors won the State competition last year as well. This year’s repeat performance marks the first back-to-back title for the Warriors, and the third state championship in school history.
