The Bethel Warrior boys basketball team took 3rd place at state, the highest of any Bethel high school team in over a decade, with a win over a stout Mt. Edgecumbe club 67-55 on Saturday morning.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead and held it for the first two quarters; led by the marksman-like 3-point shooting of Carlie Romer, who would later leave the game with five fouls.
The third and fourth quarters both had gut-check moments for Bethel, but the Warriors’ lead would not be relinquished. Bethel eventually extended the lead enough to bring in all of their bench players.
Junior Ito Naneng would lead all scorers, and finished with 17 points, and sophomore Taylor Hoffman contributed 12.
Monroe Catholic went on to win the state championship title 60-52 over Anchorage Christian.
