With 160 total points, the Bethel wrestlers took first place among 11 teams who competed in the tournament including several Anchorage schools, Seward, and Dillingham. Bethel had nine scoring wrestlers and three who earned first place.
Gage Hoffman took first place in the 113 pound weight class scoring 24 team points. Josh Mendenhall took first place in the 132 pound weight class scoring 26 team points. And in the 138 pound weight class, Avery Coplin earned first place and 24 team points.
Other Warriors who placed in the Valdez tournament included Tecumseh Hensley who took second place in the 106 pound weight class. Carlie McIntyre took second in the 126 pound weight class. And John Oulton took second in the 145 pound weight class.
Taking third place for the Warriors was Brandon Evan in the 120 pound weight class. Patrick Francisco took third place in the 170 pound weight class. And Brandon Oulton took fourth place in the 152 pound weight class.
This Friday and Saturday, the Warriors are hosting the Bethel Invitational Tournament at the Warrior Dome. Wrestling will begin at 2 p.m. Friday and will include both junior high and high school.
