The Bethel Regional High School boys’ basketball team opened up the Warrior double-header on Friday evening against the Raiders of Unalaska. Both teams came out shaky in the first quarter; however, both teams had valid excuses as the Warriors are in the middle of a lengthy road-trip, while this was the first contest of the season for the Raiders.
Bethel eventually settled into the noisy atmosphere of the “Raider Dome” and had doubled-up the Raiders by the end of the first half 34 to 17. Bethel’s road-weary legs began to show in the latter parts of the second-half, but it was a moot-point by that time as the Warriors would win by a 17-point margin- 57 to 40. The Warriors were led in scoring by Senior Ito Naneng’s 23-points.The varsity boys’ next game is Saturday night in Unalaska starting at 8:00pm. KYUK will have live coverage of that game on 640AM. and live-streaming at www.kyuk.org.
The Lady Warriors closed out Friday night’s double-header with a dominating victory of their own. Bethel jumped out to a strong ten-point lead after one quarter of play, and continued the onslaught on both offense and defense taking a 23-9 lead into the locker-room at halftime. Unalaska was eventually able to shake some of the rust off of their game doubling their first-half total in the 3rd quarter, but the Lady Warriors continued to out-hustle and outclass the Lady Raiders in each facet of the game winning decisively, 52-25. Riana Joseph led Bethel with 11 points, followed by 9-point efforts from both Shantell Kessner-Kinegak and Rebecca Brink. The Lady Warriors will attempt to continue their winning ways on the road again tomorrow night against Unalaska starting at 6:30pm. Live coverage will be available on 640AM and also streaming at www.kyuk.org.
