Akiachak’s Schouviller Wassilie is leading the Bogus Creek 150 field to the finish line. As of 9 a.m., the GPS spot trackers showed Wassilie maintaining his lead as he hit the Gweek River inbound, about 23 miles from the Bethel finish. Several teams are on his tail including Harry Alexie, Jackie Larson, Johnny Evan, and John George in that order.

Wassilie left the final checkpoint at Tuluksak with a 20 minute edge on Harry Alexie and Jackie Larson. He checked through his team of nine dogs at 5:58 Saturday morning and began the final 50.5 miles into Bethel. Alexie and Larson left Tuluksak at 6:19 and 6:20 respectively. Alexie dropped one dog to make an eight dog team, and Larson dropped to a seven dog team. John George left in striking distance of 2nd place with a 7 dog team at 6:26.

Ten teams started the race Friday at 5 p.m. and all teams are still on the trail. According to GPS trackers, the red lantern was Joan Klejka, a 15-year-old rookie from Bethel. She checked into Tuluksak close to 9 a.m.
