Akiachak’s Schouviller Wassilie was the first musher through Tuluksak Friday night. He came in at 9:46, just five minutes before Jackie Larson and John George. Wassilie was the fastest on the warm trail to Tuluksak, but only with a minute on Larson and George.

Wassilie is driving dogs from Max Olick’s Bad River Kennel. Louis Pavilla was on hand to take a look at the team and send them off to the halfway point of Bogus Creek. Teams will take a required 4-hour rest before turing back to Tuluksak and Bethel.

Mushers reported some glare ice that was slippery at times, but otherwise decent trails. Warm temperatures required teams to be extra prepared for potential dehydration. GPS showed all ten teams in Bogus Creek by 2:00 a.m. Saturday. The race does not usually get phone calls from Bogus. Leaderboards should be updated Saturday.
