Wassillie leads the pack in Bethel’s first race

Bethel’s first sled dog race of the season was held Saturday, Dec. 29. Schouviller Wassillie of Akiachak beat out a dozen other teams to win the 46-mile Holiday Classic. Wassillie finished in a time of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 27 seconds, taking home $1,320 for his efforts. Steve Olive of Bethel finished just 9 seconds behind for second place. Last year’s winner, Mike Williams Jr. of Akiak, finished third.
