Wellness Wednesday: Elder recounts personal history of Tuberculosis

by Kristin Hall on July 31, 2013

With a recent outbreak of Tuberculosis reported in the YK Delta this week’s Wellness Wednesday presentation could not have come at a more appropriate time. Molly Hales, Katy Krings, and Evie Achee from the Public Health Center in Bethel were able to educate listeners and spread awareness of the bacterial infection. They were even able to sit down with 78 year old Yupik Elder Katie Roehl prior to the show to hear her personal story of being diagnosed with the disease in 1940; one of most devastating times for the disease not only in Alaska, but also the entire nation. Listen to Roehl’s story below.
