The Iditarod Sled Dog Race held its awards banquet Sunday in Nome where Mike Williams Jr. of Akiak and Pete Kaiser of Bethel were both given special prizes.

Mike Williams Jr., 27 of Akiak, received the Nome Kennel Club award for having the fastest finish time from Safety to Nome out of the top 20 teams. For that, Williams takes home $500 in addition to his $28,400 payout for finishing the race in 8th place.

Pete Kaiser, 24 of Bethel, drew the winning key for a brand new four-wheeler, a prize from race sponsor Northern Air Cargo. At the banquet, race finishers get the chance to draw the set of keys that starts the new four-wheeler. The truly exceptional part of the award is that Kaiser chose the winning set last year as well. Besides the ATV, Kaiser also takes home $36,500 for taking 5th place.
