Y-K Delta athletes bring home medals from Arctic Winter Games

awg-logo_thFive regional athletes are competing in the 2014 Arctic Winter Games and bringing home medals. Bethel Wrestlers Gage Hoffman and Aaron Olson earned gold medals Tuesday as members of team Alaska’s mixed wrestling team.

They won the Dual Team competition on Tuesday. Hoffman had a perfect record of 4-0 and Olson was 3-1. They will begin in the Individual Competition tomorrow and Friday. Hoffman is in the 57 kg weight class and Olson is competing in the 62 kg class.

In the Arctic sports competition, Isaiah Charles of Newtok earned a silver medal in the two foot high kick on Tuesday with a kick of 6’ 10.”

Alecia Egoak and Annmarie Paul from Kipnuk are also competing in the arctic sports competition. Egoak took 5th place in the two foot high kick and Annmarie Paul earned 5th place in the kneel jump. The Arctic sports competitors will complete several other events in the coming several days.

The Arctic Winter Games are being held in Fairbanks. 2,000 athletes are competing from Alaska, Canada, and Greenland.
