Bethel ADF&G Fish Bin Vandalized, But You Can Still Call To Request Fish

You won’t be able to find Bethel’s free fish bin this weekend, but there is still a way to get salmon caught in the state's test fishery.

The bin, operated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, was vandalized on Thursday of this week. The bin was thrown into Brown’s Slough and its accompanying sign was broken. Until the sign can be fixed, Fish and Game will be delivering fish to local dog mushers and people who have added their names to a distribution list. To add your name to the list, call the Bethel Fish and Game office at 907-543-2433.

The state collects between 10 to 60 salmon a day at the Bethel Test Fishery and sonar site. The samples help determine the size and makeup of the salmon running up the Kuskokwim River; all the fish caught are given to the community. The state agency plans to put the fish bin back out next week in its usual spot next to Corina’s Groceries near Brown’s Slough.
