City Endorses State Funded Road Project Around H-Marker Lake

The Bethel City Council is all for extending the road around H-Marker Lake to connect with Tundra Ridge Subdivision, but a study needs to be done first.

The Bethel City Council is all for extending the road around H-Marker Lake to connect with Tundra Ridge Subdivision, but a study needs to be done first. Two possible routes are under consideration. Council voted unanimously to endorse the road, and also voted to allocate $20,000 to DOWL Engineering to begin the survey.

The road is included in the State Transportation Improvement Plan, or STIP, which governs how federal highway money is spent. City Manager Pete Williams said that this project has been proposed for a long time.

“The oddball thing about this is that this road was put up in this nomination 20 years ago,” said Williams. “What I heard just two days ago is that we’re not going to have to put up a match for this road.”

In other words, the cost is completely covered. Public comments on the two routes for the Tundra Ridge Road Realignment Project will be taken by the state until March 16.

You can send comments on the project directly to STIP by emailing dot.stip@alaska.gov or calling (907) 465-4070.
